Tensegrity Variations

With the basic principles of tensegrity understood, I took to computational design and parametric modelling in order to test the possibilities of altering the generic sticks and string modules as showcased by Kenneth Snelson. The testing saw two main techniques derived:

Bow and String

A leaf shape panel replaces the compression struts as the material properties of the plywood or polypropylene provide a natural bending force opposite to its curvature. This in turn pulls the connecting string into tension.

Membrane

Here, the tension members/strings are replaced by a taught membrane, this helps to create a sheltered space and could be developed to form an occupiable architectural form.
